Westland Sports 1 Hamworthy Recreation 0

A well contested match with not much between the two sides and the final score in doubt right to the end. Ham Rec settled first into a neat passing game and almost opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Westland's Keeper Sam Watts dropped a high cross at the feet of a Rec forward. He lobbed the ball goal wards and the ball hit the bar and rebounded into the grateful keeper's arms.

For the rest of the half it was defenses on top with both sides playing some good stuff but unable to break through.

Half-time 0-0 but it had been an entertaining game and could go either way.

In the second half the home side came out the traps flying and took the lead in the 47th minute. Sports caught the visitor's napping with a quick free kick that put Henry Lawrence-Napier through. His shot was blocked by a timely tackle but the ball broke to Leo Hayward who controlled it and thumped a shot low and hard into the far corner.

As the half progressed the visitors pushed hard for the equalizer but Westland's defense held firm with keeper Sam Watts pulling off a couple of good saves. Westland's sub Dwayne Forshaw picked up a yellow card late on for a trip but apart from that a game played in excellent spirit with match official Mr. Griffiths not needing to use the 'sin bin'.

Note - this was printed in the DPL Match Reports and is much kinder than I would have written! (BP).
