Swanage Town 2 Hamworthy Recreation 1

A disappointing day in the Bank Holiday sunshine for Rec. After an even first-half Rec went in front right on half-time, but the second period saw them struggle to put the hosts under any pressure and Swanage, who showed more aggression and determination, took the points.

Rec gave a debut to Pete Pritchard, recently signed from neighbours Merley Cobham.

It was a very even first half with Chris Long and Ross Hampton-Brown both having chances, but Swanage were dangerous at times and Sam Jones, in goal, made a couple of timely saves.

One of few classy moves brought about the only goal of the half, on 43 minutes, when Richie Sands and Ross Hampton-Brown combined cleverly to set up HARRY STOKES to fire in for 0-1 at HT.

As in the previous week, Rec conceded in the first minute of the second period when Beard scored for the hosts following a corner for 1-1 and it was nearly two soon after with a far-post Swanage header just wide.

The Swans were now looking dangerous and a direct break saw a goal attempt deflected away for a corner, before Jones, again, saved well from a long-range effort.

Long was hauled down on the edge of the area with just the keeper to beat (NOT a goalscoring chance said the referree - such is how a match can be influenced by officals), with the free-kick easily saved.

The deciding goal came on 65 minutes when a cross from the right was cleverly headed in by Swanage hot-shot Rose for 2-1.

Jones produced another fine tip-over, before Rec had their best chance of the half when Stokes pulled the ball back for Dave Wrixton, only for him to mis-cue with the goal at his mercy.

That just about summed up Rec's day. FT 2-1.
