Mudeford Mens Club 0 Ham Rec Res. 4
With a lot of changes to the squad this game was always going to be a test for us.
We started well with new young signing Jamie O'Hara causing the Mudeford wing back big problems from the start. Also playing his 1st game in almost 2 years was Duds, who looked as sharp as ever and doesn't appear to have lost any of his pace after his long layoff. With the boys at the back as solid as ever and Gavin and AB running the game from midfield it was only a matter of time before we broke the deadlock.
A defence splitting ball from Dixie was met by Dan 'Goals' Manuel who bravely slid in with the keeper and dispatched the ball into the net; 1-0. Dan went close again soon after when his excellent free kick went just wide of the target. It was all Ham Rec but we couldn't find the break through and went into half time with a 1 goal lead.
It was important to get a 2nd goal ASAP as we felt this would kill Mudeford off - we didn't have to wait long. Another defence splitting pass from our midfield was met by Duds who casually passed the ball into the bottom corner of the net to get a goal on his return to the side; 2-0. I think I speak for all the lads and especially those of us who were playing when Duds broke his leg how pleased we were to see him playing again and get a goal on his 1st game back.
It was now game over and Mudeford resorted to trying to kick us and gob the referee off. Dixie made it 3 with 10 mins to go, a corner was blocked but Dixie was calm and swivelled to put the ball into the back of the net; 3-0. We made it 4 in injury time, Cutler somehow managed not to score when met with a virtually open goal but luckily Phil was on hand with a left foot Volley from all of 3 yards; 4-0.
Another great result from the lads that keeps us in 2nd place in the league, the gloss was however taken off the victory when on Sunday while playing for the New Star Simon Cutler suffered a Broken leg and Snapped knee ligaments, I speak for all the lads when I say 'Get well soon Cuts, all the lads are thinking about you'.
