Ham Rec Res. 7 Redlynch & Woodfalls 1
Reserves smash Redlynch for 7 on a hot day at Magna Road in a match that started at a frantic pace.
Our pitch made a massive difference to our passing game and we were able to get the ball down and play some very good football. The Redlynch keeper’s very long kick was their only real threat but it was dealt with superbly by Paul Foley, Shaun Brian and our keeper Paul Maitland. We went very close to breaking the dead lock when Sam Griffin, who terrorised the Redlynch defence all day, pulled a great ball back to Jamie Moores who's superb 1st time effort hit the inside of the post. The rebound fell to Charlie Meyer who's effort from a difficult angle was brilliantly saved by the Redlynch keeper. It was all Ham Rec and our pressure paid off when Dan Manuel hit a brilliant 25 yard free kick into the top corner to put us 1-0 up at half time.
We carried on our good work after the break with Andy Barham and new signing Luke Crutcher running the show in midfield, Sam and Charlie destroying them down the wings and the defence as solid as ever. It wasn't long before we doubled our lead, a great through ball from Andy Barham was brilliantly brought down and tucked away by Dan Manuel to make it 2-0 to The Rec. Sam Griffin was then taken out by a mystery sniper from the bushes and had to come off with a injured ankle, he was replaced by Wayne Hole who wasted no time in putting us 3 up when he cut in from the left to fire a great shot into the top corner. We followed this up straight away when good work down the right from Charlie Mayer was rewarded with our 4th goal and Dan Manuel's hat trick.
The superb Andy Barham then picked up a groin injury and was replaced by Dixie. We were now flying and with Luke Dawe replacing Jamie Moores up front Redlynch could not cope with the Rec's onslaught. Charlie Meyer then made it 5 after a great individual run from the right wing. The “Old Men on the Hill” were going wild at this point and were very glad they had made the decision to watch us rather than go to Portland to watch the Rep side. Unfortunately we couldn't manage to keep a clean sheet as Redlynch were awarded an extremely dodgy penalty late in the second half, they scored to spot lick to make it 5-1. We weren't done yet though and hit back straight away with Dan Manuel and Charlie Meyer scoring in quick succession to make the final score 7-1.
