Verwood Town Res. 2 Ham Rec Res. 0
The game started well for us and they didn't create much and we had by far the better chances. We were controlling the game until 20 mins when Matty White suffered a bad head injury and had to come off. He was replaced by Gary Vincent who was carrying an injury and was not match fit! At this time we began to lose control of the game and just before half time a defensive error from Lee Russell led to Verwood taking a undeserved half time lead.
The second half started with Verwood on top, we still could have got back into the game but we missed chance after chance. Another mistake at the back led to Verwood’s second goal killing the game off for us. We went 3 up front for the last 10 mins but could still not put the ball in the net, it just wasn't going to be our day in front of goal.
Pennington St Marks 2 Ham Rec Res. 2
The game started at a fast pace with both sides going close early on. Dan Manuel was put through by Phil Sweetland but lifted the ball just over the bar. Another great ball from Phil put Luke Dawe away but again his lobbed effort failed to hit the target. Pennington had chances of their own with Paul Maitland making an outstanding save when their striker was through on goal one on one. Just before half time we were caught square at the back, Paul Foley made a last ditched attempt at a tackle but in doing so managed to two foot our own goalkeeper taking him out and leaving the Pennington striker with an easy tap in although it did look massively offside from where we were standing!!
After a few home truths at half time we started the second half on top and we had most of the game. This paid off when Gary Vincent was clean through on goal and was brought down by a horrific tackle by the Pennington defender - Gary later admitted that he dived!!!! Captain Dixie stepped up to bury it with a well taken penalty. 5 mins later we had another blatant penalty turned when Dawsey was fouled in the box. The game looked to be heading for a draw when Pennington whipped in a corner only for Foley to put the ball into his own net. We had a great chance to equalise but Luke Dawe somehow managed to clear Dixie's goal bound header off their goal line stopping a certain goal, Luke was later awarded the tracksuit (Foley was a very close second) for this great bit of defending...... For Pennington! It looked like we were heading for another defeat but the lads kept battling to the end and our efforts paid off when our pressure led to the Pennington defender putting the ball into his own net to earn us a great result and a very important point.
